I think I liked it. There were some parts that didn’t really click for me, esp. the stories of the Unicorn tapestry and the semi-biography of Craig Venter. These stories didn’t really seem to fit with the rest of the book. The obvious good ones were the description of Level 4 at Fort Detrick and the Ebola outbreak. The description of how everyone close to patient zero died was frightening. Also of interest were the stories about the Chudnovsky brothers, the demise of the Eastern Hemlock and the horrifying disease of Lesch-Nyhan. I remember learning about Lesch-Nyhan in medical school but the details had gone the way of the Dodo. It was good to be reminded how horrible this syndrome is. I enjoyed this book enough to pick up more of Preston’s work.
